Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the murder of Charlie Kirk, appears in court on the 11th (local time). Rick Egan/The Salt Lake Tribune/AP=Yonhap News
Tyler Robinson, 22, the suspect accused of assassinating conservative youth activist Charlie Kirk, made his first court appearance.
According to the Associated Press and CNN, among others, Robinson appeared in the Provo, Utah, courthouse on the 11th (local time).
He had previously participated in court hearings via video or phone while in custody, and this was his first in-person appearance in court.
Robinson appeared in court dressed neatly in a light blue shirt, slacks, and a striped tie. He was wearing handcuffs and restraints on his wrists and ankles.
Judge Tony Graff, who is presiding over the case, ruled in a closed-door hearing in October that Robinson could wear civilian clothing during pre-trial hearings, but would be required to wear restraints for security reasons.
Upon arriving at the courthouse, Robinson smiled at his family members seated in the front row, and his mother wiped away tears, according to US media reports.
The hearing on this day discussed whether the trial proceedings of this case would be open to the public.
Robinson's defense team and the Utah County Sheriff's Office requested that the judge prohibit cameras from being in the courtroom.
Conversely, Erika Kirk, Charlie Kirk's wife, has demanded a public trial, arguing that cameras and other forms of recording should be permitted in the courtroom.
The judge has not yet made a decision on whether the trial will be public.

He has been indicted on charges including aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, tampering with a witness, and obstruction of justice.
Prosecutors presented key evidence, including DNA found on the trigger of the gun used in Kirk's murder matching Robinson's DNA, and text messages from Robinson to his romantic partner and roommate in which he confessed to killing Kirk.
Robinson stated his motive for the crime as, "I was tired of his hate. Some hate cannot be resolved through conversation."
According to documents filed with the court, Robinson's mother told investigators that her son had become more politically radical over the past year and had become "more oriented towards advocating for the rights of homosexuals and transgender people."
Authorities have stated that Robinson's partner is a biological male who is undergoing gender transition.
Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty in the trial.
