"After deep prayer and consideration, and after listening to countless people across our great state, I have decided to run for Governor in 2026," said Mike Lindell.
Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow, officially announced his candidacy for Governor of Minnesota on Thursday, the 11th, reportedly having filed for candidacy last week. He released his official announcement video on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Let's bring common sense back to Minnesota."
Lindell posted on X (formerly Twitter), "I am officially running for Governor of Minnesota. After praying and deep consideration, and after listening to countless people across our great state, I have decided to jump into the 2026 gubernatorial race. I still stand firm and will fight for you."
Lindell will join a Republican primary field that includes former state Senator Scott Jensen, Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth, and state Representative Kristin Robbins, according to The Hill. The primary election is scheduled for August.
In response to Lindell's announcement, Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat, posted on X (formerly Twitter), "We've seen what happens when we elect a grifter to the highest office in America. We can't let that happen in Minnesota."
Governor Walz is seeking a third term and defeated Jensen by about 8 percentage points in the 2022 election, securing 52.3% of the vote compared to Jensen's 44.6%.
Cook Political Report rates the Minnesota gubernatorial election as "Leans Democratic."
Lindell founded MyPillow in Minnesota in 2009 and grew it into a national company.
