US President Donald Trump announced on the 13th (local time) that "there will be a very strong retaliation" regarding the deaths of two US soldiers and one civilian interpreter in Syria due to an attack by the Islamic State (IS).
President Trump stated on the social media platform Truth Social, "We mourn the loss of three great American patriots in Syria, two US soldiers and one civilian interpreter."
He added, referring to the three injured soldiers, "According to a recent confirmation, their condition is good," and "I pray for them."
President Trump said, "This incident was an IS attack targeting the United States and Syria in a very dangerous region that is not fully controlled even within Syria."
He further stated, "Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is extremely angry and shocked by this attack," and "there will be a very strong retaliation."
President Trump also emphasized "We will retaliate" regarding this matter when he met with the White House press corps on his way to attend the Army-Navy American football game in Baltimore, Maryland.
