Speaking at a medal ceremony for border defense at the White House on the same day, Trump said, "I had a good conversation with European leaders an hour ago regarding the Ukraine war. We discussed at length, and the situation seems to be progressing well."

Trump stated he had spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as leaders from Germany, Italy, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, and NATO.

He added, "We have also had many conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin."

He continued, "I think we are closer to peace now than ever before. We will see what can be done."

Trump remarked, "We are getting closer to peace. We have tremendous support from European leaders. They also want this war to end."

He further explained, "Right now, Russia wants to end it, but the problem is, they want to end it, and then suddenly they don't, and Ukraine wants to end it, and then suddenly they don't want to. So we have to get both sides to agree. But I think the conversations are going very, very well."
