FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino announced on Wednesday that he will resign in January.
Bongino wrote on social media platform X, amidst speculation about his future throughout the day, "I am grateful to President Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Director Kash Patel for the opportunity to serve with purpose."
Earlier, President Donald Trump told reporters regarding media reports that the former podcaster and FBI Deputy Director planned to resign, "Dan did a great job. It seems he wants to go back to his show."
Bongino, a former NYPD officer, Secret Service agent, and right-wing podcaster, was an unusual appointment to the FBI's second-highest position, a role historically held by career agents who rose through the ranks.
Before joining the FBI, Bongino hosted "The Dan Bongino Show," a nationally syndicated conservative radio program and top-ranked podcast, where he sharply criticized Democrats, the media, and federal law enforcement agencies.

The show, distributed by Westwood One and downloaded millions of times monthly, had ended earlier this year when Bongino took on the Deputy Director role.
The left-leaning outlet MS NOW reported that not only Deputy Director Bongino but also Director Kash Patel were in "precarious circumstances" and could be dismissed soon. It also reported that Andrew Bailey, a senior FBI official, was being discussed as Patel's successor.
The White House dismissed the report as "fake news."
The Gateway Pundit questioned, "Who in the world is leaking information to these progressive media outlets?" adding, "The corruption of the deep state apparatus has not been fully eradicated, and some elements within it are eager for Bongino and Patel to leave as soon as possible."
