A review of 10 ultra-low-priced products from 8 brands sold on Chinese online shopping platforms AliExpress and Temu revealed that all 10 products under investigation were confirmed to be non-genuine, according to a report by the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the 24th.

In the case of famous brand headphones, the font of the logo and the detailed design differed from the genuine product. For basic and color cosmetics, the ingredient composition differed from the genuine product, and the scent was also significantly different.

Other items such as scrubbers, water filters, and phone cases also had discrepancies in exterior design or color compared to genuine products, or had missing logos.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government urged consumers to compare registered trademarks and logos through KIPRIS (Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service) and to carefully compare product images and reviews on official websites.

Platforms like AliExpress have refund policies after inspection through a 'Report Suspected Counterfeit' button. However, the actual refund process is complicated, leading many consumers to give up.

Based on these findings, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has requested the platforms to halt sales and plans to strengthen safety inspections and distribution monitoring.

Meanwhile, AliExpress and Temu faced controversy last year as numerous instances were found where hazardous substances such as phthalate plasticizers, cadmium, and lead in children's products exceeded domestic standards by tens to hundreds of times.
