White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced on the 29th (local time) that U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the Ukraine issue.

In a brief post on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Jean-Pierre stated, "President Trump had a positive call with President Putin regarding Ukraine."

Specific details of the conversation were not disclosed.

The call took place the day after President Trump held a two-and-a-half-hour meeting and joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

President Trump had previously stated on the 28th that he had a "productive and good" call with President Putin prior to his meeting with President Zelensky. Thus, the two leaders communicated by phone for two consecutive days.

Given that Jean-Pierre described the call as "positive," attention is focused on whether progress has been made regarding the plan for ending the Ukraine war, which was discussed in President Trump's meeting with President Zelensky the previous day.

During the joint press conference with President Zelensky on the 28th, President Trump had described the progress of mediation talks with warring parties such as Russia and Ukraine as "95% complete," while also noting that "there are one or two thorny issues," indicating that complex issues such as territorial disputes still remain.

TASS news agency reported that Yuri Ushakov, the Kremlin's aide for foreign policy, confirmed that "as agreed, the Presidents of Russia and the United States spoke by phone today."

Ushakov stated that during the call, President Trump and his key advisors provided President Putin with a detailed briefing on the main outcomes of the negotiations with President Zelensky and the Ukrainian delegation in Mar-a-Lago the previous day.

He added, "President Trump explained various aspects of the progress made by the Zelensky team towards ending the conflict. However, we assess that Kyiv authorities are leaving room for various interpretations to evade their obligations," expressing a negative stance on Ukraine's proposals.

Ushakov remarked, "President Zelensky received advice from President Trump to 'focus on reaching a comprehensive agreement that leads to the genuine end of the armed conflict, rather than trying to give the Ukrainian army a break.'"

Ushakov reported that President Putin informed President Trump that Ukraine had attempted a large-scale long-range drone attack on his residence immediately after the Mar-a-Lago negotiations, and President Trump was shocked and angered by this news.

Earlier, Russia claimed that Ukraine launched 91 drones at Putin's residence in Novgorod during the night of the 28th-29th, but all were shot down.

Ushakov explained that President Putin expressed his intention to respond to Ukraine's act of terrorism and to re-evaluate Russia's position on negotiations, but also reiterated his commitment to continuing close work with the United States towards peace.

He stated that President Putin has had a total of 17 contacts with U.S. representatives this year, including this 10th call with President Trump, and that the two presidents have agreed to continue their dialogue.
