Attorney General Pam Bondi told Just the News in an interview that she ordered federal prosecutors to investigate the "lawfare" of the Obama-Biden era as a conspiracy to interfere in elections. The conspiracy has been accused of protecting Democratic Party members from criminal investigation and violating the civil rights of Republican Party members, including President Donald Trump and his supporters.
Bondi, who is recovering from eye surgery, stated this in written answers to questions submitted by Just the News on Sunday, signaling her agreement with FBI Director Kash Patel's view that the weaponization of information and law enforcement powers, which dates back to the Russia collusion case earlier this year, is a continuing conspiracy requiring investigation.
"Ongoing Conspiracy" and Statute of Limitations
This approach would allow prosecutors to charge defendants with crimes that are otherwise outside the statute of limitations, similar to cases brought against the mafia or drug cartels, if they are linked to an ongoing conspiracy.
"Pursuant to my instructions, our federal prosecutors and federal agents are actively investigating instances of government weaponization nationwide," Bondi said. "This is a decade-long national disgrace perpetrated against the American people by senior public officials."
"Under President Trump, we are working to remediate the damage and achieve justice," she added. Bondi said her department and the FBI have "disclosed an unprecedented amount of documents to Congress regarding the weaponization of government, far more than in previous administrations."
She said this evidence has laid the groundwork for conspiracy cases. While Bondi did not disclose where prosecutors are investigating, Just the News reported, citing officials, that a significant portion of the investigation is taking place in Florida, where President Trump's home was searched in 2022.
Bondi: "Excessive" Abuse of Power Based on Political Beliefs
"This evidence shows the FBI has used excessive legal procedures and operations to pursue conservatives because of their beliefs, rather than to protect Americans from the public safety threats posed by open borders and violent crime, while protecting politicians like Hunter Biden and Hillary Clinton," Bondi said. "They even executed search warrants that their own departments and law enforcement officers believed were excessive."
Bondi's remarks refer to recently released evidence showing that FBI agents determined that the Biden Justice Department did not have enough evidence to justify the search warrant and the raid on Trump's Florida home, Mar-a-Lago, on August 8, 2022.
The Principle of "No One Is Above the Law" Applies Both Ways
"The Department of Justice takes the weaponization of government seriously. This means protecting civil liberties, preventing election interference, and holding malicious actors accountable," she said. "No one is above the law. Not even themselves."
The Attorney General also strongly condemned former CIA Director John Brennan, who received a subpoena from a grand jury seeking his testimony, for asking a federal chief judge in Miami to intervene in his investigation.
Brennan's legal team expressed concern in a letter that the Justice Department was "judge shopping" and trying to assign the case to federal judge Aileen Cannon, who ruled in Trump's favor in the classified documents case and dismissed the case last year. They asked Altonaga to exercise her "supervisory authority" to prevent the Justice Department from assigning the Russia-related case to Judge Cannon.
"A letter from John Brennan's legal team to Chief Federal Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga in Florida was recently made public," Bondi told Just the News. "This letter calls for judicial intervention in a lawful grand jury investigation by the executive branch, demonstrating that these malicious actors are clearly concerned about their legal accountability and are trying to maintain a two-tiered system of justice. That is, they seek to distinguish between the law for themselves and the law for everyone else. This will no longer be tolerated."
