The ‘Western Freedom Uprising 1st Anniversary Event’ will be held at the White Hall of White Wave Art Center, Banpo-daero, Seocho-gu, Seoul, from 6 PM to 9 PM on January 19, 2026.

The Western Freedom Uprising refers to the incident on January 19th last year, around 2:59 AM, when hundreds of supporters protesting near the Seoul Western District Court, where the warrant review was taking place, strongly protested at around 3:10 AM, asserting their right to national resistance, after an arrest warrant was issued for President Yoon Suk-yeol on charges of leading a rebellion, making him the first sitting president in constitutional history to be arrested.

As a result of the protest that day, 40 people were arrested by the police on charges of assaulting police officers and trespassing into the court, and their trials are currently underway.

This 1st anniversary event of the Western Freedom Uprising is organized by the Western Freedom Lawyers Association and co-organized by the Association of Professors Practicing Freedom and Justice (Jakyomo), VON News, and Yeodaeka (Women's University KakaoTalk Room).
