The United States announced on the 29th (local time) that it has carried out a series of military operations following large-scale airstrikes in retaliation for an attack on US soldiers, eliminating or capturing approximately 25 Islamic State (IS) fighters within Syria.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees US forces in the Middle East, stated in a press release on X (formerly Twitter) that it conducted 11 operations from the 20th to the 29th, in conjunction with allied forces across Syria, following a large-scale airstrike on the 19th.
CENTCOM announced that as a result, at least 7 IS members were eliminated, the rest were captured, and IS weapons caches were destroyed.
These operations were conducted after the "OPERATION HAWKEYE STRIKE," a large-scale retaliatory attack targeting IS inside Syria on the 19th.
The United States launched a massive airstrike on the 19th after two US soldiers and an American interpreter were killed in a sudden attack on US troops and Syrian government forces conducting field reconnaissance in Palmyra, central Syria, on the 13th.
CENTCOM stated that in this airstrike, "US and Jordanian forces struck over 70 targets with more than 100 precision bombs. Dozens of fighter jets, attack helicopters, and artillery units were mobilized, destroying IS infrastructure and weapons sites throughout central Syria."
CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper said, "We will not be deterred. We remain unwavering in our commitment to partner with regional allies to defeat IS, which threatens the security of the United States and the region."
