The U.S. Supreme Court will not rule on the Trump administration's tariff policies on January 9 (local time), according to Reuters.

The Supreme Court had announced on its website on January 6 that it could announce decisions on major cases during the justices' court appearance on the 9th.

Although the Supreme Court did not disclose which case it would rule on, as per custom at the time, speculation had arisen that a decision on the legality of so-called "reciprocal tariffs" (tariffs by country) imposed by President Trump might be announced.

The Supreme Court is hearing arguments on whether the president can impose broad tariffs based on the "International Emergency Economic Powers Act" (IEEPA), as President Trump claims that "the U.S. trade deficit is an emergency and therefore tariffs must be imposed on various countries."
