U.S. President Donald Trump [Yonhap News]
U.S. President Donald Trump pledged American support for Iranian anti-government protesters on the 13th (local time) and urged them to take stronger action, such as occupying government institutions.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, on the same day, President Trump wrote, "To the patriotic people of Iran: Continue to stand up. Take over your (government) institutions."
He stated, "Leave the names of those who kill and abuse you. They will pay a great price."
He added, "I have canceled all meetings with Iranian officials until the (Iranian government) stops the indiscriminate killing of protesters. Help is on the way."
The Trump administration has stated that it will prioritize diplomatic solutions in relation to the situation in Iran, while also keeping open the possibility of military intervention.
President Trump had previously warned that if the Iranian government continues to kill protesters, he would "strike them very hard," and the day before, he announced that a 25% tariff would be immediately imposed on U.S. exports to any country trading with Iran.
