The People Power Party proposed on the 15th a bill, adopted as party policy, to display the country of origin of users who post online comments.

On the same day, Reps. Choi Hyung-du, Kim Jang-gyeom, Park Choong-kwon, and Choi Su-jin, all members of the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee, submitted amendment bills to the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. to the National Assembly's legislative affairs office.

These amendment bills would require the display of the country of origin for users posting comments or other content. The intention is to make it known from which country the post was created.

Earlier, Rep. Jang Dong-hyuk stated on the 10th, "There was a case where the connection location of an X (formerly Twitter) account, which had posted over 65,000 messages criticizing the People Power Party over the past seven years, was confirmed as 'China'." He argued for the necessity of displaying nationality in online comments to prevent public opinion from being distorted by foreign comments.

The People Power Party also proposed on the same day, as party policy, an amendment to the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. to remove the punitive damages clause from the so-called 'Fake News Eradication Act,' which was passed in December of last year under the leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea.

Regarding the amendment bill, Rep. Choi explained, "We have deleted the clause that would impose punitive damages of up to five times the amount on those involved in spreading so-called 'false information'," adding, "This reflects the concerns of the international community, media organizations, and civic groups."
