Maria Corina Machado, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, presented a gold medal to President Donald Trump, who accepted it on the 15th (local time).

The White House shared a photo on X (formerly Twitter) of the Venezuelan opposition leader and President Trump holding the medal, which was in a gold-plated frame.

The inscription read that he was recognized for his "principled and determined action to secure a free Venezuela."

The Nobel Committee stated that the Peace Prize itself is non-transferable.

Machado's spokesperson told reporters after her meeting with President Trump that she presented the decoration "to recognize his extraordinary commitment to our freedom."

However, she did not secure political support from President Trump for a democratic transition in Venezuela.

According to The Wall Street Journal, President Trump had previously stated his willingness to negotiate with the socialist regime led by acting leader Delcy Rodriguez.

He wrote on his Truth Social account late on the 15th, praising Machado and calling her a "great woman who has gone through so much."

"Maria gave me the Nobel Peace Prize for my work. It was a truly beautiful gesture of mutual respect," he said.

Machado and Trump met in person for the first time during a private lunch meeting, and those close to Machado hope the meeting will spur President Trump to cooperate with the opposition in his plans for Venezuela following the arrest of dictator Nicolas Maduro.
