The repercussions of the case of Rene Gude (b. 1988), who died at the hands of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota, are ongoing.

Rene Gude, a white U.S. citizen in his 30s, was shot and killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross after he threatened to hit Ross with his car as Ross attempted to stop him. U.S. President Donald Trump referred to this as "self-defense."

Following this, Minnesota Democratic Party officials are attending a memorial rally for Rene Gude, holding press conferences, and causing a stir by criticizing the Trump administration.

U.S. Democrats Ignore Murders by Immigrants 

Notably, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey drew criticism for posting photos of themselves at Rene Gude's memorial on social media and publicly denouncing the Trump administration and ICE.

Fox News reported, "In recent years, several Minnesota residents have been killed by immigrants who do not have the legal right to reside in the United States, but we have found no evidence that Governor Walz, Mayor Frey, or Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan have expressed anger or held press conferences about these incidents."

The report continued, "In August 2024, Victoria Eileen Howell of Minnesota (who was also a mother with children) was killed in a traffic accident after being hit by an intoxicated individual from Ecuador in north Minneapolis. However, there were no reports of press conferences or public statements from the mayor or governor."

Brutal criminal acts committed by immigrants, not just undocumented ones, have long been a social problem in the United States.

According to Fox News, 18-year-old Halle Helgeson, who was born in St. Paul and raised in Montevideo, Minnesota, died last year in Wisconsin when the car she was traveling in with her 19-year-old boyfriend, Brady Hyling, was hit head-on by a drunk driver traveling the wrong way on the highway. The driver was an undocumented individual from Honduras who was driving under the influence.

Furthermore, in 2021, 55-year-old America Mafalda Teyor was brutally murdered by her boyfriend, Alexis Saborit Vilches, a Cuban national, after she asked him to break up.

The American media outlet TwinCities.com also reported in 2021 that "a homeowner in St. Paul was brutally raped by Rolando Lopez-Meneses, a Mexican national, after refusing to live with him."

Fox News contacted Governor Walz, Mayor Frey, and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan to inquire if they could provide examples of public mourning for Minnesota residents killed or harmed by undocumented immigrants but received no response.

Given that the Democratic Party has never issued any official statement on any of these incidents, Fox News criticized the Democratic Party's response to the Rene Gude case as biased.

"Selective Outrage to Conceal Tax Fraud"

Recently, ICE officials released a list of "worst of the worst criminal immigrants" related to a surge in illegal immigration in Minnesota. This list includes child rapists and ten murderers.

Tricia McLaughlin, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Homeland Security, revealed, "Governor Walz and Mayor Frey not only refuse to cooperate with ICE law enforcement agencies but have also released nearly 470 illegal immigrants, including violent criminals, back onto the streets of Minnesota."

McLaughlin expressed outrage, stating, "They prioritize politics over public safety. Politicians in Minnesota have sided with criminals and illegal immigrants, ignoring American victims."

Adam Schieltz, a former Navy SEAL and Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Minnesota, emphasized, "The leaders of Minnesota's DFL (Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party) have lost their American and Minnesotan identity. This cannot continue. We need new leadership."

John Nagel, a former Minnesota State Patrol lieutenant and Republican candidate for Minnesota's 5th congressional district, stated indignantly, "This is selective outrage to divert attention from the billions of dollars in losses incurred through fraud during their tenure, rather than demonstrating leadership."

American political commentators warn that current Minnesota legislation is paving the way for "the next billion-dollar fraud."

According to Fox News, between 2018 and 2022, tax fraud totaling between 340 trillion and 770 trillion won occurred in the United States.

In response, President Trump signed a fact sheet on the 8th (local time) to "Establish a New Department of Justice Division for National Fraud Enforcement."

A domestic political expert commented that such events are not unique to other countries.

He pointed out, "Since the decentralization of local government, no proper audits have been conducted in this country to date. It is difficult to prevent tax theft in a country where members of the National Assembly neutralize the Board of Audit and Inspection."

Minnesota citizens stated, "The Minnesota Democratic Party does not apply the law equally. They determine the importance of victims based on politics and appearances. They hold press conferences or perform memorial tributes only when tragedies fit their narrative. When Minnesota residents die due to failed federal immigration policies, we hear almost nothing. There is no urgency, no accountability, only silence and avoidance."

This is a story that Korea should also reflect upon.
