  • Just The News reports on the accomplishments of Trump's first year in his second term

November 20 (local time) marks the one-year anniversary of U.S. President Donald Trump's second term. The United States has undergone significant changes over the past year.

Here are the achievements of Trump's first year in his second term, compiled by JustTheNews.

Mortgage Rates

Currently, the average interest rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is approximately 6.02%, down from 7.04% a year ago during President Biden's tenure. However, this is 0.75 percentage points lower than the peak of 7.79% for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage in October 2023.

The average rate is about 2.5 times higher than when President Biden took office after President Trump's first term.

To maximize U.S. home affordability, President Trump directed government-sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to purchase $200 billion in mortgage-backed securities, aiming to lower rates. Following this announcement, rates temporarily dropped below 6%.

Additionally, the Trump administration considered temporarily suspending a 50-year mortgage plan and allowing penalty-free withdrawals from 401(k) or 529 accounts for down payments.

Plunge in Gas Prices

As of January 2026, the national average price for regular gasoline is approximately $2.82 per gallon, down from about $3.08 in January 2025, at the end of the Biden administration.

The peak price during President Biden's term was in June 2022, when gasoline reached about $5.02 per gallon, primarily due to a shortage in U.S. refining capacity.

In response, President Biden released oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to alleviate the burden of high gas prices, resulting in a decrease of 17 to 42 cents per gallon.

This reserve oil, stored in salt caverns across Louisiana and Texas, currently holds 413.68 million barrels of crude oil, representing about 60% of its maximum storage capacity.

President Trump has pursued an aggressive "energy dominance" policy during his second term, including achieving record-high domestic oil production, deregulation, and resuming liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. This has significantly contributed to current oil prices falling to their lowest levels in years. As a result, households are expected to save billions of dollars in 2026 compared to previous years.

Egg Prices

Currently, the national average price for a dozen large Grade A eggs is approximately $2.71, showing significant stabilization compared to about $4.15 in January 2025 at the end of the Biden administration.

During the Biden administration, egg prices hit a peak of about $4.82 per dozen in early 2023 and surged again in 2025 due to widespread culling of chickens caused by avian flu, reaching $8.17 in some retail stores in March.

In contrast, Trump's agricultural policies (including a $12 billion USDA biosecurity and compensation plan, deregulation, and rapid livestock rebuilding) have driven prices down to multi-year lows, bringing significant savings to consumers.

Inflation

According to the federal government's monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, the annual inflation rate in the U.S. is projected to be 2.7% for the 12 months ending December 2025, the same as the previous month and down from approximately 3% at the end of President Biden's term in January 2025.

During President Biden's term, this phenomenon, known as "Bidenflation," saw inflation reach a peak of 9.1% year-over-year in June 2022, the highest in 40 years, with cumulative inflation reaching a staggering 21.5%.

President Trump is fulfilling his campaign promises by pursuing supply-side policies. These include comprehensive deregulation to enhance productivity, tax cuts for working families, policies to boost energy self-sufficiency, and tariff adjustments. These policies are credited with stabilizing inflation and gradually lowering it towards the Federal Reserve's target of 2%, while simultaneously supporting an increase in real wages for American workers.

GDP Growth Rate

Recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) shows that real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2025 (July-September) recorded a solid annualized growth rate of 4.3%. The Atlanta Federal Reserve's GDPNow forecasts a 4th quarter 2025 growth rate of approximately 5.3%. This is significantly higher than the annualized growth rate of approximately 2.4% in the fourth quarter of 2024, at the end of the Biden administration.

President Trump's "America First" policies, including deregulation to promote business investment, strengthening energy market dominance to reduce costs, extending tax cuts, and implementing tariff measures to attract manufacturing back to the U.S., are driving rapid economic growth that is currently at its highest levels in years.

This growth is expected to continue in 2026, leading to increased wages, job growth, and economic prosperity for American workers.

Foreign-Born Population Remaining in the Country

Following intensive deportation operations over the past year, the foreign-born population in the U.S. is now estimated at 51.5 million, a decrease of approximately 1.8 million from January 2025 due to reduced net immigration and enhanced law enforcement.

President Trump concluded his first year in office with a 95% reduction in border crossings.

This decrease includes the undocumented immigrant population, with a reduction of approximately 576,000, including over 622,000 reported deportations and 1.9 million voluntary departures.

Under the Biden administration, the foreign-born population peaked at 53.3 million by January 2025.

The number of undocumented immigrants peaked at 14 million in 2023 before stabilizing or slightly declining from late 2024. This contrasts with a sharp decline in 2025, as deportation policies under the Biden administration focused more on hostile actions at the border rather than domestic enforcement.

Peace Agreements Reached

In just one year, Trump mediated several international peace agreements, including: the Armenia-Azerbaijan agreement signed at the White House in August 2025; the Democratic Republic of Congo-Rwanda agreement signed in Washington in December 2025; the India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement in May 2025; the Israel-Iran ceasefire agreement in June 2025; the Thailand-Cambodia Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement in October 2025; and the Egypt-Ethiopia resolution regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

Additionally, a Russian-Ukrainian ceasefire proposal in March 2025 and a Gaza peace plan between Israel and Hamas signed in October 2025 were advanced, totaling at least eight significant agreements aimed at reducing global conflicts.

While Biden pursued policies such as rejoining the Paris Climate Accord and supporting Ukraine against Russia, his achievements in terms of tangible progress for peace are limited to two events: the Israel-Hamas ceasefire in 2021 and the Israel-Hezbollah Lebanon ceasefire in 2024, neither of which were consistently upheld.

Capture of Top FBI Fugitives

In the first year of President Trump's second term, the FBI apprehended five of the nation's top 10 most wanted fugitives.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated that these achievements are a result of President Trump focusing the FBI on its original mission of investigating crime.

In contrast, the Biden administration apprehended only four of the top 10 most wanted fugitives during its four-year term.

Tax Cuts for the Middle Class

According to an official analysis by the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation, the tax reforms included in President Trump's signature tax legislation, "One Big Beautiful Bill," are expected to provide a tax reduction of approximately 15% for middle-class Americans earning between $30,000 and $80,000 annually.

The White House called this bill, which includes reforms such as eliminating taxes on tips and overtime and expanding the child tax credit, "the largest tax cut in history for American workers and the middle class."

Record High Tariff Revenue

Within a year of taking office, the President's tariff policies, aimed at rebalancing trade between the U.S. and the world and revitalizing American manufacturing, resulted in record-high tariff revenues in 2025.

In his first year, the U.S. Treasury collected $264.05 billion in import duties.

U.S. trade deficit narrowed to its lowest level since 2009 during the same period, according to Commerce Department data.
