US President Trump attending the Davos Forum in Switzerland [Reuters Yonhap News]

U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met in Davos, Switzerland, on January 22 (local time), where the World Economic Forum (WEF) is being held, to discuss a peace plan.

Both sides agreed that discussions on the peace plan are in their final stages and decided to continue trilateral meetings with Russian officials.

According to Bloomberg and Reuters, President Trump and President Zelensky discussed Ukraine's security guarantees and economic reconstruction plans for about an hour.

It was reported that both sides discussed a wide range of issues, from existing points of contention such as Ukraine's air defense system to the procedures related to substantive negotiations.

Both sides expressed positive evaluations after the meeting.

President Trump said, "We will see what happens next," and urged President Vladimir Putin to "end the war."

President Zelensky also evaluated the meeting as "productive and substantive," stating that "the peace plan documents with the United States are well prepared."

He added, "The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) exists with the belief that the United States will take action," and emphasized, "Security guarantees do not work without the United States, and President Trump's support is needed."

He also announced that "starting on the 23rd, U.S., Russian, and Ukrainian officials will meet in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for two days to continue discussions on the peace plan." U.S. Special Representative Steve Witcoff is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Russia on this day to discuss the peace plan.

Following the meeting, President Zelensky stressed in a speech at the WEF that European allies are divided and must actively counter Russia.

He pointed out the problem with the European Union's mindset, stating, "Most leaders are just waiting for the United States to quiet down regarding the Greenland issue." He also blamed the EU's lack of will, referencing the failure of a plan to support Ukraine using frozen Russian assets at a previous EU summit.

He demanded that Europe, like the United States, take action by completely banning imports of Russian oil and preventing Russia from accessing missile components.

He pleaded, "Europe remains a fragmented kaleidoscope," and warned, "If you don't help those fighting for democracy, the consequences will eventually come back like a boomerang."
