Tom Homan, President Donald Trump's top border official, is heading to Minnesota amid rising tensions following the second killing of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protester in the state. Newsmax reported on the 26th (local time) that he is expected to serve as a "tough but fair" mediator.
"I am sending Tom Homan to Minnesota tonight," President Trump stated on Truth Social on Monday. "He has not been involved in the area's work but knows and likes many of the people there. Tom is tough but fair, and he will be reporting directly to me."
Homan, who has urged restraint in "inflammatory rhetoric" in Minnesota, is seen by many protesters and ICE critics as part of the problem.
President Trump had already warned Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for refusing to cooperate with federal agencies in the state.

President Trump reiterated his long-standing stance that the situation was instigated by Democrats seeking to evade a massive fraud investigation, adding that the allegations could extend to Governor Walz.
"Separately, a major investigation into a massive welfare fraud case exceeding $20 billion in Minnesota is underway, which is at least partly responsible for the violent, organized protests on the streets," the Trump statement continued.
"Furthermore, the Department of Justice and Congress are investigating 'Congresswoman' Ilhan Omar, who left Somalia with nothing and is now reportedly worth over $44 million. Time will tell," the President added.

White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt wrote on her X account, "Tom Homan will oversee ICE operations on the ground in Minnesota and continue to arrest the worst criminal illegal aliens."
"Tom will also be working with officials investigating the large-scale, widespread fraud case that has resulted in billions of dollars in taxes being stolen from law-abiding citizens in Minnesota," she added.
House Republican Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) praised Homan's appointment.
"An excellent decision by the President," Emmer wrote on X Monday morning. "Tom Homan will be a strong leader to end the chaos in Minnesota, restore accountability, and step in where local and state officials have failed."
