U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 28th (local time) that he would nominate federal prosecutor Colin McDonald as the first Assistant Secretary of the newly established National Fraud Enforcement Unit within the Department of Justice.
The establishment of this department and the new position come in the wake of federal fraud investigations conducted in California and Minnesota. In particular, the Minnesota fraud scandal drew nationwide attention due to the immense scale of fraud that occurred within the state's social welfare programs.
While Trump did not disclose much information regarding the alleged election fraud in California, he generally stated that people "stole hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars."
Trump posted on Truth Social, "I am pleased to nominate Colin McDonald as Assistant Secretary for National Fraud Enforcement, a new division within the Department of Justice. This division is one I created to catch and stop fraudsters who steal from the American people."
He added, "Colin McDonald is a very smart, tough, and respected America First federal prosecutor who has successfully delivered justice in some of the most difficult and important cases in our nation's history. Together, we will end fraud and restore transparency to federal programs. Congratulations Colin. Stop the fraud!"
