The United States and Russia agreed on the 5th (local time) to resume high-level military talks, which had been suspended for over four years.

The U.S. European Command stated, "Maintaining dialogue between militaries is a crucial factor for global stability and peace, which can only be achieved through strength, and serves as a means to enhance transparency and ease tensions."

The announcement of the resumption of these high-level military talks came amidst negotiations between the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia on ending the war in Ukraine, held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

General Alexis Grenkevich, Commander of U.S. European Command, also met with senior military officials from Russia and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi.

The European Command stated, "This channel will provide a consistent line of communication between militaries as parties work toward lasting peace."

According to the European Command, the high-level military talks were suspended in the fall of 2021, several months before Russia's invasion of Ukraine (February 2022).
