Harold Rogers, interim representative of Coupang Korea, is appearing at the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 6th to be investigated for alleged false testimony (perjury under the National Assembly Testimony and Inspection Act) at the parliamentary 'Coupang Situation Joint Hearing'. [Yonhap News]
Harold Rogers, the interim representative of Coupang Korea, who was summoned again by the police on the 6th, was released after approximately 14 hours of intense investigation into allegations of perjury at the parliamentary hearing.
Rogers left the building of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Major Crimes Division in Mapo-gu around 3:25 AM on the 7th. He did not answer questions such as "Did you admit to the perjury allegations?" or "Did the NIS instruct the contact of the personal information leak perpetrator?" and left the scene.
In the investigation that day, the police questioned whether Rogers' statements at the parliamentary hearing were true, and if not, whether he was aware that they were false.
During the 'Coupang Situation Joint Hearing' held at the National Assembly on December 30-31 of last year, he stated that Coupang's contact and investigation of the suspect in the personal information leak and the recovery of a laptop were at the instruction of the National Intelligence Service (NIS). However, the NIS denied this.
This is the second time Rogers has been summoned by the police, following his appearance on the 30th of last month. In the first police investigation, he was questioned about the alleged destruction of evidence through a 'self-investigation' after the personal information leak incident (obstruction of justice, etc.).
After leaving the country immediately after the hearing, Rogers initially ignored two police summonses. However, he returned to Korea and was investigated when the possibility of his apprehension was raised.
As he entered the building around 1:30 PM the previous day, he stated, "Coupang will continue to cooperate with all government investigations and will sincerely participate in today's investigation."

Rogers is expected to appear before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee on the 23rd (local time). For this reason, it is speculated that further summons investigations may occur regarding Coupang's alleged cover-up of industrial accidents before he departs for the United States.
Rogers is also accused of ordering reports that downplayed or evaded responsibility for the industrial accident of the late Jang Deok-jun, who died while working night shifts at a Coupang logistics center in 2020. However, an investigation into this matter has not yet taken place.
The police are speeding up their investigation by applying charges such as destruction of evidence and occupational manslaughter to Rogers and analyzing Jang's mobile phone and workplace CCTV footage.
