Jared Kushner, the eldest son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, and Middle East envoy Steve Wycott visited the U.S. Navy's Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group on the day after talks with Iran, CNN reported on the 7th (local time).
The United States has been strengthening its military presence around Iran, including deploying the Abraham Lincoln to the Middle East in response to Iran's violent crackdown on anti-government protests.
Commander Brad Cooper of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees U.S. military operations in the Middle East, invited Kushner and Ambassador Wycott to the carrier. The purpose of the visit was to encourage U.S. service members, a senior U.S. official told CNN.
Ambassador Wycott stated on X (formerly Twitter) after the carrier visit that he, Kushner, and Commander Cooper met with "the brave sailors and Marines of the USS Abraham Lincoln, its strike group, and Carrier Air Wing 9."
He added, "The troops are keeping us safe and upholding President Donald Trump's message of 'peace through strength.' I thanked them and observed actual flight operations."

Earlier, a U.S. delegation including Ambassador Wycott and Kushner discussed nuclear issues with an Iranian delegation in Muscat, the capital of Oman, on the 6th. This marked the resumption of nuclear negotiations between the U.S. and Iran after an eight-month hiatus.
Immediately after the talks, President Trump described it as "very good talks," but at the same time, the U.S. Department of State maintained pressure on Iran by imposing sanctions on entities involved in the illegal trade of Iranian petroleum products.
CNN explained that this carrier visit served as a reminder that the Trump administration is still maintaining an increased military posture in the Middle East, despite the resumption of negotiations between the U.S. and Iran.
According to regional sources, Oman and Iran were aware of the carrier visit by Kushner and Ambassador Wycott in advance.
CNN reported, "The U.S. military presence has accelerated in recent weeks as President Trump reviewed options for striking Iran, but there have been no signals yet that he has decided to implement any of the reviewed options."
