The U.S. Department of State announced on the 17th (local time) that it had canceled the visas of over 100,000 foreigners who were arrested or convicted of crimes in the United States, including domestic violence and sexual assault.

The State Department stated on X, "The United States has no obligation to accept criminals who threaten American citizens. U.S. visas are a privilege, not a right. In the first year of the Trump administration, we canceled the visas of over 100,000 individuals who committed the worst crimes, such as drunk driving, child abuse, and assault."

The State Department released some of the arrest and conviction cases, including one foreigner convicted of raping three women. Another foreigner was arrested multiple times for domestic violence, public intoxication, and violating bail conditions. A third foreigner was arrested on suspicion of raping a minor.

In the X post, the State Department said, "President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will protect our borders and citizens by strictly enforcing immigration laws. Foreigners who violate the law and threaten the safety of our citizens while exploiting America's hospitality will have their visas revoked."

The 100,000 canceled visas include various non-immigrant visas such as tourist and business visas.

In January, the State Department announced that approximately 8,000 foreign student visas had been canceled under the second Trump administration. It was also reported that about 2,500 professional visas were canceled.

According to the State Department and Fox News, about half of the canceled student and professional visas were due to criminal activity, particularly drunk driving (DUI), assault, and theft.
