FBI Director Kash Patel stated on the 18th (local time) that investigators have uncovered major financial flows linked to Antifa.
According to The Washington Examiner, this revelation suggests the possibility of new enforcement measures as the FBI intensifies its surveillance of left-wing violence.
Appearing on "The Dan Bongino Show," Patel said that under President Donald Trump, the FBI had been conducting financial investigations into how protests associated with loosely organized far-left movements are supported.
"These groups do not operate in isolation or clandestinely," Patel said. "They operate through massive financial flows. That's why we started our investigation, and the great thing is, we finally found them."
Patel did not disclose specific donors, organizations, or funding methods but indicated that more details could emerge in the coming months as the investigation progresses.
The FBI director revealed that agents are investigating whether funds have been channeled through U.S.-based non-profit organizations, particularly those with certain tax-exempt statuses, and are also looking into potential foreign funding sources.
He emphasized that investigators are focusing on tracking financial support for violent acts and not on constitutionally protected protest activities.
"Money doesn't lie," Patel said, describing the effort as a strategy to "follow the money" and identify who is sponsoring illegal activities.
Patel also referred to existing indictment cases filed by the FBI, adding that they are connected to violent incidents involving Antifa, including federal arrests and convictions related to protest events that occurred in multiple states.
He cited the ongoing trial of nine defendants in Texas federal court, who are accused of attempting to ambush and murder ICE agents on July 4, 2025.
Patel also referenced incidents related to the proposed Atlanta public safety training facility, known as 'Cop City,' in Georgia in 2023.
The director stated that the FBI has elevated the issue internally by creating a dedicated program focused on identifying financial sponsors of protest-related violence.
"Antifa tracking has become so important" that the agency has allocated additional resources to investigate the funding of such activities, he said.
Antifa has long been characterized by participants and many analysts as a decentralized movement rather than an official organization, a distinction that has complicated law enforcement efforts to investigate past conspiracy-type cases.
However, Patel points to an organizational structure of Antifa, including a national network for meetings and local chapters.
Bongino, who previously served as FBI Deputy Director, criticized how the FBI leadership under former Democratic Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden had described Antifa as an "ideology."
"When ideology is followed by actual action, it’s not an ideology," he said.
In September 2025, Trump signed an executive order designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, building on an idea he first raised during his first term.
Patel stated that the FBI's current approach relies on intelligence and financial investigations similar to those used in other counterterrorism probes but did not announce new indictments directly linked to the alleged funding networks.
