U.S. President Donald Trump stated on the 19th (local time) that the Board of Peace he established would not only cooperate with the United Nations on the future of the Gaza Strip, but also ensure that the UN is "properly run."

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace held at the Donald J. Trump United States Institute of Peace, President Trump argued that while the UN has "tremendous potential," it "has not lived up to that potential."

He emphasized that the Board of Peace is an action-oriented alternative to the hollow international discourse that has persisted for decades.

In his opening remarks, President Trump said, "We will work very closely with the UN," adding that the Board of Peace will "virtually supervise the UN and ensure it is properly run." He further added that the U.S. would support the UN "financially" and work to strengthen its facilities and operations.

President Trump stated, "Someday I won't be here. But the UN will be here. The UN will be much stronger, and the Board of Peace will practically oversee the UN to ensure it is run properly."

President Trump defined the board as a result-oriented forum aimed at creating a sustainable post-war plan for the Gaza Strip following the ceasefire reached last autumn.

The inaugural meeting was held while major unresolved issues remain, including the disarmament of Hamas, the withdrawal of Israeli troops, the distribution of humanitarian aid, and the scale and structure of reconstruction funds, which are expected to cost tens of billions of dollars.

However, President Trump described a sense of momentum building.

President Trump also announced that nine member countries of the Board of Peace had agreed to provide $7 billion for a Gaza relief package, and five countries had agreed to dispatch an international stabilization force to the war-torn Palestinian territory.

Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, and Albania have pledged to send troops to the Gaza stabilization force, while Egypt and Jordan have agreed to support police training.

U.S. forces will initially be deployed to the densely populated area of Rafah, where the administration plans to focus its reconstruction efforts.

Meanwhile, President Trump stated that countries such as Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Kuwait are making commitments.

The pledged funds are only a fraction of the estimated $70 billion required to rebuild the Palestinian territory devastated by two years of war.

President Trump also announced that the U.S. would provide $10 billion to the Board of Peace, though he did not specify how the funds would be utilized.

Major General Jasper Jeffers, commander of the newly created International Stabilization Force (ISF), stated that the plan is to deploy 12,000 police officers and 20,000 soldiers to Gaza.

"With these first steps, we will help Gaza secure the necessary stability for a future of prosperity and lasting peace," Jeffers said.

While most countries sent high-level officials to the meeting, several heads of state were also in attendance, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Argentine President Javier Milei, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

More than 40 countries and the European Union confirmed they would send representatives to Thursday's meeting. About a dozen countries, including Germany, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and South Korea, are participating as observers rather than formal members of the board.
