As the possibility of a U.S. military strike against Iran is being discussed, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on the 22nd (local time) that Iran is preparing a draft agreement ahead of the Geneva talks with the U.S. on the 26th and anticipates that an agreement will be possible through this.

In an interview with U.S. broadcaster CBS on the same day, Minister Araghchi said, "We are still preparing a draft agreement comprising elements that can accommodate the concerns and interests of both sides," adding, "Perhaps when we meet again in Geneva on Thursday (the 26th), we can discuss these elements, prepare a good agreement, and reach a swift accord."

"This is my understanding. I see this as quite possible," he added.

When asked if he expected U.S. President Donald Trump to carry out a military attack on Iran, Minister Araghchi replied, "I cannot judge," but stated, "If we want to find a solution for Iran's peaceful nuclear program, diplomacy is the only path."

He also emphasized, "An increase in military power (by the U.S.) is entirely unnecessary and unhelpful, and it cannot pressure us."

Regarding the U.S. demand for a complete halt to Iran's uranium enrichment activities, Minister Araghchi stated, "Enrichment is our right. We are a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and we possess all rights to enjoy peaceful nuclear energy."

Furthermore, in response to the question of whether it is worthwhile to assert the right to enrichment within Iranian territory amidst the crisis of national and regime collapse due to the threat of U.S. military operations, he emphasized, "We have paid dearly, so this technology is very precious. We have endured sanctions for at least 20 years, lost scientists, and even experienced war. This is a matter of dignity and pride for the Iranian people, and we will not give it up."

Regarding the "12-day war" with Israel last June and the U.S. surprise strike on Iranian nuclear facilities, Minister Araghchi said, "There were issues with our air defense system, but Israel also had problems with its air defense and Iranian missiles. They requested an unconditional ceasefire after 12 days because they couldn't stop our missiles."

He stated that if a U.S. military attack were to begin, "Responding to it is self-defense, and it is just and legal. We cannot strike the U.S. mainland, so naturally, we must take other measures. We must strike U.S. military bases in the region."
