The debate surrounding the political role of the media is escalating as the Freedom Korea Homeland Corps announced on the 26th that it will resume its campaign to cancel subscriptions to print newspapers like Chosun, JoongAng, and Dong-A, and boycott television channels TV Chosun, Channel A, and JTBC.

Oh Sang-jong, the head of the Freedom Korea Homeland Corps, explained the reason for resuming the subscription cancellation campaign in a statement released on the same day, stating, "Chosun, JoongAng, and Dong-A, while appearing to represent conservative voices, have disrupted the narrative and manipulated public opinion at critical moments." He argued, "Media that intervenes politically under the guise of reporting, leads public opinion, and ignores inconvenient truths, has no reason to exist any longer."

Oh specifically referenced the two past presidential impeachment proceedings, saying, "When you recall the reporting attitudes of Chosun, JoongAng, and Dong-A at the time, and the trend of promoting specific figures like Lee Jun-seok and Han Dong-hoon, it becomes clearer." He emphasized, "It is time to respond with action to correct their arrogance."

This declaration is drawing attention as it coincides with the growing conflict within political circles and the conservative camp regarding the direction of media reporting. However, some in the media industry have raised concerns that collective boycott and viewing refusal campaigns targeting specific media outlets could lead to controversies over freedom of expression and the shrinking of public discourse.
