  • “Radar data is a Class II security document”…“We could have refused under the Military Secret Protection Act.”
  • Civic Groups File Complaint Against Prosecutor General Eun-seok Cho at Supreme Prosecutors' Office, Alleging "Damage to ROK-U.S. Alliance"

Special Prosecutor Jo Eun-seok, investigating the rebellion and foreign exchange case related to 'December 3rd Emergency Martial Law,' is seen leaving after completing a search and seizure at the residence of former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the 24th.

It has been revealed that the special prosecutor for rebellion obtained radar data containing the flight paths of US military assets through a search and seizure conducted at Osan Air Base.

A source, who requested anonymity, stated, "I heard that the special prosecutor's office was set up at the base and received radar data."

The source further explained, "However, the radar data itself is a Class 2 security document," and that "the routes of US strategic assets (U-2) and others are all disclosed within it."

The U-2, nicknamed the 'Dragon Lady,' is a single-engine, high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft operated by the US Air Force (USAF) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

The special prosecutor is investigating allegations that in October 2024, the military fabricated training documents to conceal the fact that a reconnaissance drone (Unit 74) infiltrated North Korean airspace and crashed.

While the special prosecutor stated that the search and seizure was conducted to obtain the flight data of the drone sent to Pyongyang, the fact that the radar data includes US military security data is expected to cause further controversy.

This is because a cascade of suspicions can arise, such as whether the Class 2 security document radar data secured by the special prosecutor has been leaked elsewhere, and who was responsible for allowing the special prosecutor's office into the base, given that the search and seizure could have been refused citing the Military Secret Protection Act.

Meanwhile, according to Seoul Economy, the civic group Committee for the Welfare of the Common People submitted a complaint to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office on the 29th (Korean time), accusing Special Prosecutor Jo Eun-seok of foreign exchange offenses (general treason), abuse of power, and obstruction of official duties by coercion.

Regarding the special prosecutor's search and seizure of Osan Air Base on the 21st, the group expressed concern, stating, "We suspect that by initiating a search and seizure without prior consultation with the United States, military benefits may have been provided to an adversary nation," and "This could become a pretext for the current Trump administration's military buildup and tariff increases, leading to enormous damage to the national industry."

Earlier, News & Post reported that President Donald Trump reacted with "What The F***" after receiving a report about this search and seizure. The meeting scheduled for that day between National Security Advisor Chung Eui-yong and Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio did not take place.

Yonhap News reported that President Trump urgently summoned Secretary Rubio, and the extended meeting prevented the encounter with Mr. Chung.
