There are concerns that the special prosecutor's team, led by Prosecutor General Min, which is investigating allegations related to First Lady Kim Keon-hee, is overstepping its bounds by seeking an arrest warrant on the 30th for former President Yoon Suk-yeol, who has reportedly recently received findings from his physician indicating a risk of blindness.
It is known that former President Yoon received a medical opinion from his physician stating that his health had deteriorated to the point where there was a possibility of losing his sight.
However, the special prosecutor's team indicated no intention to consider former President Yoon's health condition, stating, "We have heard nothing from the detention center regarding his health."
At a regular briefing that afternoon, Deputy Prosecutor Oh Jeong-hee explained the background for requesting the arrest warrant, saying, "The special prosecutor's team re-notified former President Yoon, who was absent yesterday, to appear this morning at 10 AM. However, following yesterday, former President Yoon did not appear today either, without providing any reason."
This is the second time an arrest warrant has been sought for former President Yoon, following January. It is reported that former President Yoon's legal team has not yet submitted a power of attorney.
The special prosecutor's team is reportedly considering a plan to execute the arrest warrant by dispatching one special prosecutor's assistant and one prosecutor to the detention center, along with correctional officers, if the warrant is issued.
However, there are predictions that even if an arrest warrant for former President Yoon is granted and he is brought in for questioning, there will be little benefit from coercive investigation as he is likely to exercise his right to remain silent.
Since being re-arrested by the special prosecutor investigating sedition on the 10th, former President Yoon has continuously refused to comply with the special prosecutor's summoned investigations and the sedition trial.
