Speaking to reporters that day, President Trump said, "Central Command struck Kharg Island at my direction."

However, President Trump said he decided not to remove oil-related infrastructure on Kharg Island, suggesting the attack primarily targeted military objectives within Kharg Island.

The U.S. military's attack on Kharg Island is known to be a measure to resume passage through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran had blocked.
