President Donald Trump on Monday reiterated his call for countries to help resolve the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, complaining that some nations were not enthusiastic enough in assisting Washington.

Trump requested that nations cooperate in maintaining security in the strait after Iran effectively cut off passage for oil and liquefied natural gas tankers, which carry one-fifth of the world's supply, in retaliation for attacks by the U.S. and Israel, using drones, missiles, and mines.

"Some countries are very enthusiastic, and some are not," Trump said at a White House event. "There are countries we’ve supported for a long time. We’ve protected them from terrible forces, and they weren’t too enthusiastic. The level of enthusiasm matters to me."

He also stated that some countries had offered to help, but Trump did not name any of them.

The U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran have sent global energy markets into turmoil, leading to rising oil prices and higher gasoline prices for American consumers. These price surges could disrupt Trump's domestic economic agenda and also negatively affect Republican prospects in the November midterm elections.

Allies, including Germany, Spain, and Italy, have indicated they will not participate in the Gulf war, at least for now.

Britain and Denmark have adopted a more cautious approach, stating they would review options for assistance but emphasizing the need to de-escalate tensions and avoid being drawn into a war.

The United Kingdom has an autonomous mine-detection system that could be utilized, Prime Minister Starmer said.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said that while he did not agree with the war, it would be wise for the European Union to be open to whether it "can contribute to de-escalation in the Strait of Hormuz."

France is likely to offer support. President Macron had already announced the deployment of an aircraft carrier group to protect French vessels, even before Trump's request.

On Monday morning, Federal Finance Minister Scott Bassant stated in an interview with CNBC that the U.S. was currently "fine" with some Iranian, Indian, and Chinese ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, oil prices fell by about 1% on Monday, and stocks rose, according to Reuters.

Over the weekend, Trump threatened further attacks on the region after striking military targets on Harg Island, which handles about 90% of Iran's exports, and triggering further retaliation from Tehran.
