The three special prosecutors and the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) were reported to the police just four days after the law against distortion of the law took effect.
The civic group Citizens Committee for the Welfare of the People (CCWP, Secretary-General Kim Soon-hwan) filed a complaint with the police on the 16th against the three special prosecutors and the CIO, alleging violations of human rights during the investigations of President Yoon Suk-yeol and former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, citing the law against distortion of the law.
The subjects of the complaint also included Special Prosecutors Cho Eun-seok, Min Jung-ki, and Lee Myung-hyun, as well as CIO Director Oh Dong-woon and Deputy Director Lee Jae-seung. The three special prosecutors, launched in July of last year, indicted former President Yoon Suk-yeol a total of eight times.
Kim Soon-hwan, the CCWP Secretary-General, claimed, "The special prosecutors pressured for a life sentence against President Yoon," and stated, "There were human rights abuses through detention and reckless investigations."
He further added, "The two individuals were not investigated, transferred, and indicted through normal procedures."
While some predict that the complaints against the three special prosecutors and the CIO are unlikely to lead to actual punishment, there are also voices suggesting that the law against distortion of the law, which was forcefully passed by the ruling party, has backfired.
