Joe Kent, former director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), is reportedly under investigation by the FBI for allegedly leaking classified information.
Shelby Talcott, White House correspondent for Semafor, reported on Tuesday the 17th, citing "three sources," that Kent, who resigned, is being investigated by the FBI.
The investigation into Director Joe Kent is focused on allegations that he inappropriately shared classified information, Semafor reported, citing four sources.
According to the BBC, immediately after Kent's resignation, Taylor Budowich, former White House Deputy Assistant to the President and founder of MAGA Inc, claimed Kent was "frequently at the center of leaks of national security information," but did not provide specific details.
He also claimed Kent "spent all his time subverting the chain of command and undermining the President of the United States."
In a post on X on Tuesday, Kent stated, "I have decided to resign because I cannot, in good conscience, support war with Iran."
In his resignation letter, Kent wrote that Iran "does not pose an imminent threat to our country" and accused President Donald Trump of starting the war due to "pressure from Israel."

According to four officials, the investigation began before Kent's resignation, with one stating the investigation had been ongoing for several months.
Kent stated at a Senate hearing in March 2025 that "Iran and its terror proxies are threatening U.S. military personnel in the Middle East."
Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) pointed out on X on Tuesday the 17th, "Joe Kent testified at a Senate hearing a year ago that Iran and its terror proxies are threatening U.S. military personnel in the Middle East. He expressed his honor in returning to the war on terror and vowed to carry out his duties with integrity and accountability."
Kent had previously asserted multiple times through various X posts in January 2020 that Iran's missile and nuclear facilities needed to be eliminated, stating, "Trump has a plan, and he has earned the trust of any observer with clear eyes."
Alex Marlow, editor-in-chief of Breitbart News, commented, "It is obvious something is going on with Joe Kent. Something is happening. Somebody approached him. I don't know how they approached him."

Kent, a long-time Trump supporter, ran for Congress twice and lost. He was nominated early in President Trump's term and appointed in July 2025.
In an interview with Tucker Carlson on Wednesday evening, Kent said there was "no intelligence" that Iran would launch a "preemptive strike" against the United States and that Iran was not on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons.
He also claimed that some of the government's "core decision-makers" had limited opportunities to interact with President Trump before the war with Iran broke out, and that there was no "in-depth discussion" prior to the attack.
These remarks have drawn accusations of being rooted in anti-Semitic ideology.
Kent added that he had an "excellent" conversation with President Trump regarding his resignation and believed that he and the President had "parted on good personal terms."
President Trump said, "I read his statement. I always thought he was a good guy, but I thought he was very vulnerable when it came to security matters. I didn't know him that well."
