Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) released newly declassified portions of a former special counsel’s report on Thursday, the 31st. These documents allege that intelligence agencies under former Democratic Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden were "weaponized" against President Donald Trump.

In a press release, Grassley stated that the declassified supplement to former Special Counsel John Durham’s 2023 report provides further information regarding Hillary Clinton’s campaign efforts to falsely link Trump to Russia, as well as the FBI's failure to investigate those efforts.

In the press release, Senator Grassley stated, "According to the appendix of the Durham report, the Obama FBI failed to appropriately vet and investigate intelligence reports suggesting the Clinton campaign may have fabricated the Trump-Russia collusion narrative for Clinton's political gain."

He added, "History will show that law enforcement and intelligence agencies under the Obama and Biden administrations were weaponized against President Trump," noting that "this political weaponization has caused severe damage to our institutions and stands as one of the greatest political scandals and cover-ups in American history."

Special Counsel Durham was tasked by then-Attorney General Bill Barr to investigate the origins of the Russia probe. Barr elevated Durham to the position of Special Counsel in December 2020 to ensure the investigation would continue even after Trump left office.

The key contents of the Durham appendix, declassified at the request of Grassley by Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel, include a January 2016 memo mentioning President Obama’s intent to shut down the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server and mishandling of classified documents during her tenure as Secretary of State.

According to the appendix, a March 2016 memo contained further references to derailing that investigation, which also reportedly included plans to falsely link President Trump to Russia.

According to Grassley’s announcement, "The memo states, '(Democratic) opposition is focused on discrediting Trump... On the other hand, Clinton's staff, with the support of special services, is preparing to reveal a scandal regarding business ties between Trump and the 'Russian Mafia'.'"

Durham’s 306-page declassified report was released in May 2023. Newsmax reported on Wednesday, the 30th, that the classified appendix to the Durham report was discovered by Patel inside a bag of classified documents that were slated to be incinerated at FBI headquarters.
