U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 23rd (local time) that an agreement had been reached on most issues, including the abandonment of nuclear weapons development, in negotiations with the United States that materialized as Iran eagerly sought an end-of-war agreement. 

Speaking to reporters at West Palm Beach International Airport in Florida on the same day, President Trump stated, "Iran is eager to reach a deal," and revealed that Middle East Special Envoy Steve W. Lutfi and former White House Senior Advisor Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, met with Iranian leaders on the 22nd. 

He explained, "The two sides had a very in-depth conversation," and that the current stage is to watch what Iran does moving forward. He emphasized, "There was an agreement on important points, and it can be said that there was consensus on almost all issues." 

He added, "The discussions continued until yesterday evening, and Iran was very keen to reach an agreement. We were of the same mind. We are scheduled to meet again today, and it seems we will communicate by phone." 

President Trump did not specifically identify who represented the Iranian side at the negotiation table. 

However, he stated that the United States had not yet spoken with Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who inherited the position of Supreme Leader of Iran after his father's passing, adding, "The United States is dealing with, in my opinion, the most respected (Iranian) leader. As you know, the situation in Iran is a bit difficult. The United States has eliminated all of them (the leadership)." 

According to the U.S. digital media Axios, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, attended the bilateral meeting. Axios reported, citing Israeli intelligence sources, that Ghalibaf is a confidant effectively acting on behalf of Mojtaba. 

President Trump said that if an agreement is reached, the United States will secure the enriched uranium essential for Iran's nuclear development. Iran has consistently rejected such demands, asserting its right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes. 

Furthermore, he predicted that if the negotiations conclude successfully, the Strait of Hormuz would be opened, contributing significantly to stabilizing oil prices. He also mentioned the possibility of the U.S. and Iran jointly managing the Strait of Hormuz in the future. 

President Trump elaborated, "The United States does not want nuclear bombs, nuclear weapons, or anything similar. What we want is peace in the Middle East and the abolition of nuclear weapons. We will want that and we will get it. Both sides have agreed on these matters." 

Meanwhile, Iranian state media, citing Iranian officials, denied that any meetings with the U.S. had taken place and put forth claims suspected of being fake news, stating that the U.S. had backed down due to Iran's firm warnings. 

In response, President Trump clarified the sequence of events, stating, "The meeting between the two sides was realized at Iran's initiative." He specifically said, "It wasn't me, they (Iran) called. They were the ones who wanted to negotiate. It has to be a good deal. No more wars, no more nuclear weapons. Iran also agrees that they will no longer possess nuclear weapons." 

He concluded optimistically, "My life has been all about deals, and that's what I've done my whole life. This is something that has to happen. Why wouldn't it happen?" implying that the outcome would be in line with the U.S. objectives.
