The administration of President Donald Trump launched diplomatic efforts to end the war with Iran late Tuesday by presenting a 15-point peace proposal to the country.

The United States presented the agreement through Pakistani intermediaries, who have positioned themselves as mediators for ending the conflict.

Iranian state media continues to deny that high-level meetings are taking place.

The proposal comes as the Trump administration prepares to deploy two Marine Expeditionary Units, adding approximately 5,000 Marines and thousands of Navy personnel to the region.

According to the Associated Press, these moves are interpreted as a strategic maneuver by President Trump to secure "maximum flexibility" for his future actions.

Iran rejected the peace proposal presented by the United States, claiming that the Trump administration is spreading a false narrative of talks to buy time until U.S. military forces arrive in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, a UN Security Council resolution submitted by Bahrain and released on Wednesday is drawing attention for urging all nations to use "all necessary means" to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.

This appears to reflect the surge in global fuel prices as a result of Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

However, the resolution is facing some opposition because it raises the possibility of UN-level military action against Iran, according to AP.

If passed, the resolution would allow countries or naval allies to use military force to secure the shipping lanes and to "suppress, neutralize, and deter attempts to blockade, obstruct, or otherwise impede international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz."

The resolution also includes a demand that Iran "immediately cease all attacks on merchant and commercial vessels" and cease actions that impede freedom of navigation in and around the vital maritime passage.

This is interpreted against the backdrop of a desire to avoid escalating potential military conflicts in the Strait of Hormuz into a wider Iran war.

Meanwhile, the White House stated that President Donald Trump will continue his offensive against Iran's leadership unless they reach a peace agreement within five days, as proposed by President Trump earlier this week.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters in her opening remarks at a press conference on Wednesday that hostilities will only continue if Iran refuses to come to the negotiating table.

"President Trump is not bluffing, and he is prepared to take strong action if necessary. Iran should never miscalculate again," Jean-Pierre said.

She added, "Their recent miscalculation has cost them their supreme leader, their navy, their air force, and their air defense systems. Any further violence will be a result of the Iranian regime refusing to negotiate and refusing to acknowledge that they have already been defeated."
