Trump wrote on Truth Social, "By directive of the Government of Iran, I am hereby extending the deadline of destruction of energy facilities for 10 days, to April 6, 2026, at 8 PM Eastern Standard Time."

He added, "The negotiations are proceeding, and contrary to the false claims by the Fake News media and other actors spreading disinformation, they are going very well."

According to recent announcements by administration officials, the deadline Trump mentioned was originally set for the end of March, at which time U.S. officials warned that Washington could support or carry out strikes to degrade Iran's oil production and power generation capabilities if diplomatic progress was not made.

The initial deadline had already been postponed once as indirect contacts through intermediaries in the region began, with federal officials at the time stating that additional time was needed because "constructive channels" had been opened.

This move by President Trump marks a second extension. While the reason for the extension is explicitly stated as "by directive of the Government of Iran," Iranian officials have not publicly confirmed having made such a request.

Even during the first extension, Iranian authorities denied any negotiations through state media and some statements.

What is becoming clear is that Iran is "begging" for negotiations, as President Trump has stated. The U.S. is demanding that Iran admit defeat, but Iran appears unwilling to comply readily.
