Iran is expected to soon present a counter-proposal to the 15-point peace plan put forth by the United States, CBS News reported on the 27th (local time).
Citing multiple sources, CBS reported that President Donald Trump and White House officials are aware that Iran's counter-proposal will be presented through mediators sometime today.
U.S. Special Representative for Iran, Steve Wicker, had officially confirmed the previous day that he had handed over the 15-point peace plan to the Iranian side during a cabinet meeting held at the White House.
The peace plan reportedly includes the dismantling of nuclear facilities and a ban on uranium enrichment, the transfer of possessed enriched uranium to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a ban on supporting proxy forces in the region, and a guarantee of passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Given Iran's existing stance, these are conditions that would be difficult for Iran to accept all at once, raising questions about what kind of counter-proposal Iran will make. Attention is also focused on whether this will lead to talks between the two sides, with the U.S. peace plan and Iran's counter-proposal on the table.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas stated that the U.S. and Iran are expected to engage in face-to-face negotiations in Pakistan soon, following indirect behind-the-scenes discussions.
Previously, Iranian state media reported on the 25th, citing a senior official, that Iran had evaluated the U.S. proposal delivered through mediators as a "tactic to escalate tensions" and expressed its refusal, setting conditions such as a halt to aggression and assassinations, prevention of war recurrence, and compensation for war damages.
Yesterday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to continue the negotiation phase by extending the deferral period for attacks on energy facilities from the initially planned date until April 6th, a ten-day extension.
