House Republicans on Friday (27th) passed their own Homeland Security spending bill by a vote of 213 to 203, rejecting the Senate's compromise proposal that excluded funding for immigration enforcement agencies. Three Democrats and one independent joined Republicans in voting yes, while all the no votes came from Democrats.

The bill would fully fund the Department of Homeland Security for six weeks, through May 22.

This foreshadows a stalemate between the Senate and the House, as a partial government shutdown shows no sign of ending, according to Just The News.

House Republican leadership stated that President Donald Trump supported their proposal for temporary, full funding.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise said, "House Republicans once again voted to fully fund Homeland Security," adding, "House Democrats voted no almost unanimously."

He continued, "There's no clearer indication of who is truly concerned about the safety and security of the American people and who is using them as a political pawn."

As congressional gridlock shows no sign of resolution, President Trump personally intervened Friday morning, signing an executive order to pay Transportation Security Administration employees who had worked for weeks without receiving salaries.

President Trump signed the measure to reduce long security screening wait times occurring at many airports nationwide.

In the executive order, President Trump stated, "The American air travel system is at its breaking point."
