On Wednesday (1st), a cultural heritage official is examining dinosaur bones discovered at the construction site of Knox House in downtown Duluth, Georgia. [Excerpt from the City of Duluth Facebook page]
Construction has been completely halted in downtown Duluth, famous as Georgia's Koreatown, due to an "unexpected discovery" during renovation work, city officials announced on Wednesday (1st).
The City of Duluth announced via a Facebook post that the renovation of 'Knox House', a high-end wine restaurant in the downtown area, has been suspended pending an evaluation by the cultural heritage agency after the discovery of what is believed to be dinosaur bones at the construction site. Photos were also released.
City officials stated, "Preliminary investigations indicate the presence of historically significant material, and further evaluation of the site is currently underway." They also urged the public to "respect the posted signage and avoid disturbing the area while the evaluation proceeds."

Major dinosaur fossil discoveries are rare in the northern region of Georgia due to its geological age, with most found in the coastal plains. The recent discovery of dinosaur bones in this area has sparked interest among local residents.
It is reported that the cultural heritage agency allowed residents one day to take photographs before the dinosaur bones are collected. The bones are scheduled to be collected on Thursday (2nd).
Knox House, a private mansion built in 1899 for Duluth's first mayor, John Bruce Knox (served 1880-1885), was undergoing extensive construction for its planned reopening as a high-end restaurant and wine market in September 2025.
