Efforts to provide nutritious eggs to American households during the Easter and Passover holidays are spreading nationwide.

Over 97,000 eggs donated by Dirt & Wagner and Green Valley Poultry Farms in Virginia to Feed More are just one example of a plan to provide food to those in need, 12 On Your Side reported Thursday.

Aaron McClung, Chief Development Officer at Feed More, said, "There are many families who are not as fortunate. So, it feels natural for us to have an Easter egg hunt or even host a nice breakfast together by lending tables. However, thanks to donations from the American Egg Board and Virginia-area farmers, this will be a great help to families in need."

According to the Incredible Egg website, the American Egg Board is leading an egg donation campaign called the "Great American Egg Drive." The website states that a total of 6,332,800 eggs have been donated so far.

The website explains, "As members of their communities, egg farmers are proud to share and contribute food that plays an important role in various spring celebrations. From Passover Seders and egg dyeing traditions to popular recipes that bring families together, eggs are utilized in a variety of cultural events." It adds, "This year, the 'Great American Egg Drive' has been expanded through a partnership with HATCH, a non-profit organization that connects farms with food banks to provide fresh protein to communities in need."

Meanwhile, the Houston Food Bank received over 97,000 eggs from Cal-Maine Foods, Souders Eggs donated 72,000 eggs in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Prairie Star Farms donated over 300,000 eggs with Ohio farmers, and Cal-Maine Foods donated over 280,000 eggs to help those in need in North Carolina.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins emphasized the importance of consuming eggs on Wednesday, calling them "one of the most nutritious foods God has given us."

She stated, "Rich in high-quality protein, healthy fats, vitamin D, choline, and essential nutrients needed for growing children, eggs are the very real food we should be putting back at the center of our tables, our schools, and our national conversations about health."

Incredible Egg announced on March 31st that they are proud to support the effort led by Rollins.

According to Breitbart News, the news comes as egg prices have fallen 80% compared to a year ago.
