Sacha Isenberg, investigations editor-in-chief at the American political news outlet Politico, posted a photo of page A8 of the international print edition of The New York Times (NYT) on his social media X account on the morning of the 3rd (local time) with this comment.

The full-width headline on this page reads, "A North American Treaty Organization Without America?".

The article was an analysis piece discussing President Donald Trump's threat to withdraw the United States from NATO.

It appears clear that the phrase 'North American Treaty Organization' was an error by the NYT, which mistakenly wrote it instead of 'North Atlantic Treaty Organization'.

Given the absurd nature of the mistake, many posts on X and other platforms expressed disbelief, such as "Did the NYT really print this?" and "Can you confirm if this photo is real?". However, it was confirmed that a significant number of readers actually received the newspaper with this error.

Regarding the circumstances, some speculated, "They probably confused it with NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement)," while others reacted cynically, "Can we trust an article written by someone who doesn't even know what NATO means?" and "What were the editors doing?".

In response to Isenberg's X post pointing out the NYT's mistake, Olivier Knox, a correspondent for U.S. News & World Report, replied, "ohh nooooo," and Mark Thiessen, a columnist for The Washington Post (WP) and a Fox News contributor, responded with "OMG."
