President Donald Trump said on Monday (6th) that he would send to prison the whistleblower who revealed that the second pilot of an F-15E fighter jet shot down in Iranian airspace was being searched for. He stated that this revelation allowed Iran to become aware of the search, making the U.S. military's rescue operation more difficult.
At a press conference that day, President Trump said, "They basically said, 'There's one, and one is missing.' But before this leaker provided the information, we didn't even know who was missing."
He added, "So, whoever is missing, we'll find out. Because we will go to the media outlet that leaked the information and say, 'Either give us the information for national security, or go to jail.'"
President Trump said, "We know who we're talking about, and you know who we're talking about, because some things shouldn't be done. When they did that, suddenly Iran, all over the country, knew there was a pilot fighting for his life somewhere in their land. And this made it much more difficult for the pilots and those going to search for him."
President Trump stated that he would definitely find the "leaker" and said, "That person is mentally disturbed and probably didn't grasp the seriousness of the situation."
He added, "I can't imagine they grasped the situation properly, but we will certainly uncover the truth. This is a matter of national security, and if that person doesn't tell the truth, they will go to jail."
