President Donald Trump announced that he would halt final airstrikes against Iran for two weeks, accepting Pakistan's mediation and on the condition that Iran opens the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has also agreed to this.

President Trump posted on Truth Social on the afternoon of the 7th, stating, "In talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, they requested that I hold off on destructive attacks against Iran that I was planning for tonight, and if the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to open the Strait of Hormuz fully, immediately, and safely, I will agree to halt the bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks. This would be a mutual ceasefire."

Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, also announced in a statement on behalf of the Supreme National Security Council later that day, confirming the ceasefire and stating that "with full consideration of cooperation with the Iranian military and technical constraints, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible" during this period.

The Supreme National Security Council of Iran has accepted the two-week ceasefire and confirmed that negotiations with the United States will begin in Islamabad starting Friday.

President Trump stated that the "reason" for agreeing to the ceasefire is that the United States has successfully achieved its military objectives and is working towards a genuine peace agreement with Iran.

President Trump added, "We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which I believe could be a workable basis for negotiations. The United States and Iran have reached agreement on most of the issues that have been contentious in the past, but the two-week negotiation period will allow us to reach and implement a final agreement."

He further commented, "As President of the United States, and on behalf of the nations of the Middle East, I am honored that this long-standing issue is nearing resolution."

This move comes after President Trump threatened to obliterate Iranian civilization if Iran did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 8 PM US Eastern Time.

Iran, undeterred by President Trump's threat, had previously released images of Iranian citizens lining up at power plants.

Some have expressed disappointment that President Trump did not proceed with the final attack, suggesting that China's influence may be behind Pakistan's mediation.

Others speculate that President Trump merely postponed the final attack to avoid taking innocent lives. It is suggested that he might launch a surprise attack at an unexpected time after civilians have been evacuated from power plant facilities.

Previously, President Trump had conducted airstrikes on specific facilities to enhance his negotiation leverage. Defense Secretary Pete Hegges had even stated, "We negotiate with bombs."

However, given that the 60-day deadline for using military force without congressional approval is approaching, there is a significant view that Iran might be employing a deceptive tactic to stall for time.

The world's attention is focused on the unfolding negotiations, questioning whether the US administration will be manipulated by Iran's deceptive tactics, whether the US will be put at a disadvantage due to Chinese intervention, or if President Trump is strategically retreating to launch a surprise counterattack while minimizing casualties.
