House Democrats on Tuesday failed in an attempt to pass a resolution to end President Donald Trump's conflict with Iran.

As House and Senate lawmakers were nearing the end of a two-week Easter recess, Democrats, including Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-Md.), returned to Washington for a pro forma session to try to pass the resolution by unanimous consent.

However, Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), who presided over the session, ended the short meeting without giving Ivey the floor. Democrats protested vehemently, with some shouting, "Shame!"

Outside Congress, Democrats strongly condemned President Trump's threats to attack civilian infrastructure and return Iran to the "Stone Age" if its leaders did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Democrats had called on House Speaker Mike Johnson to shorten the recess and convene the House to vote on war powers, but Johnson ignored their pleas.

Talk of invoking the 25th Amendment to impeach President Trump for a third time has resurfaced among House Democrats.

Fox News reported that House Democratic leadership appeared to be encouraging, rather than discouraging, such discussions.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has signaled a briefing on the 25th Amendment at a Friday meeting hosted by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) and Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee.

Jeffries strongly criticized President Trump's threat earlier this week to annihilate Iran's "civilization" and bring "hell" to Tehran.

For the 25th Amendment to be invoked, the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet would have to agree that Trump is unfit for office. If Trump contested this, both the House and Senate would need to vote by a two-thirds majority to uphold the Cabinet's decision.

This is a virtually impossible scenario. Nevertheless, the Democrats' reference to this methodology is interpreted as an attempt to consolidate their base and sow division within the Republican Party ahead of the midterm elections.

In stark contrast to this sentiment, Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) said on Wednesday that President Trump's military action against Iran "has made the world safer," a statement that sharply differed from the criticisms of other Democrats.

Appearing on Fox News, Fetterman stated, "Everything Iran has done is a complete war crime," and "Now we are the good guys in the world."

He opposed a vote on a new war powers resolution requested by Democrats, arguing that it would undermine the ongoing mission.
