President Donald Trump has accused The New York Times and CNN of reporting on a "fake" and "fabricated" 10-point proposal allegedly involved in peace talks with Iran.

In a post on Truth Social late Wednesday, the president accused the outlets of spreading false information to disrupt sensitive negotiations.

Trump wrote, "The failing New York Times and Fake News CNN have each reported on a totally fabricated 10-point plan to try and discredit those involved in the Iran negotiations. All ten points were fabrications, a total fraud - evil losers!!! MAGA!"

The president's rebuke comes amid growing confusion over the terms of a shaky truce and ongoing diplomatic efforts, as various conflicting narratives about a potential agreement between the U.S. and Iran have circulated publicly.

The controversial proposal, reportedly originating from the Iranian side and amplified by international media, has raised concerns in Washington that misinformation could influence public perception of the talks.

The Iranian agreement, released by Iranian state broadcasters and reported by CNN and The New York Times, included provisions that U.S. negotiators found unacceptable, such as allowing continued uranium enrichment and Iran's continued control over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital international shipping lane.

CNN pushed back on Trump's claim on Truth Social that "CNN released a fake statement" on Tuesday night.

In a statement posted on X, a spokesperson said, "The statement was obtained by CNN from Iranian officials and reported by multiple Iranian state media outlets. We received the statement from specific Iranian official spokespersons whom we have attributed."

President Trump has repeatedly stressed that any legitimate agreement must prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and ensure the strait remains open and secure for international trade.

Vice President JD Vance sought to clarify the confusion, explaining that multiple proposals had emerged during negotiations, at least one of which was immediately rejected by the administration, The Washington Examiner reported.

Vance added, "I think the 10-point proposal that was initially put forth, frankly, it might as well have been written by ChatGPT and was never seriously considered."

A separate, more credible proposal, developed through private negotiations involving U.S. and Pakistani intermediaries, is the version the U.S. administration has been focusing on. 

The conflicting narratives highlight broader tensions, not only between Washington and Tehran but also between the Trump administration and major news organizations. 

President Trump has warned that the leak of inaccurate information and false reporting could undermine the negotiation process and mislead the public.

The Jerusalem Post pointed out that the differences between the reported plan and the framework outlined by the administration are particularly stark on key issues such as nuclear enrichment and regional security, suggesting the widely circulated "10-point plan" is inconsistent with U.S. policy.

For Trump and his allies, the incident serves as further reinforcement of their long-standing criticisms of the mainstream media, which they contend too often propagates narratives that run counter to the administration's objectives.

As negotiations progress, the White House has stated that only officially verified terms, not information from anonymous sources or foreign-originated proposals, will define any final agreement with Iran.
