U.S. President Donald Trump hinted on the 14th (local time) that peace talks with Iran could resume in Islamabad, Pakistan, "within the next two days."

In a phone interview with the U.S. daily New York Post that day, President Trump said regarding the peace talks with Iran, "You really have to stay tuned," adding, "Because something could happen in the next two days, and it's more likely that we might go there."

He added, "Do you know why the possibility is greater? Because a very good military official (field marshal) is doing a great job."

The military official referred to here is understood to be Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munir.

Munir, considered the real power in Pakistan, played a key role in the success of the first peace talks between the United States and Iran.

The New York Post reported that President Trump's remarks came during a call with a reporter in Islamabad, and that President Trump called back after finishing the interview with the reporter to convey this.

In a previous call, President Trump said, "Things are happening, but as you know, it's a bit slow," and mentioned that the next meeting was likely to be held in a location other than Pakistan.

When asked if Turkey was being considered as a venue for the talks, he replied, "No. It's a more central location. Probably Europe."

President Trump also criticized European leaders for doing nothing to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

"They haven't done anything except hold meetings. That's all they do, meetings," he said. "They are paper tigers."

Earlier, the United States and Iran held talks for over 20 hours in Islamabad on the 11th-12th local time but failed to reach an agreement.

Since then, negotiation teams from both countries have continued behind-the-scenes talks through mediator Pakistan, and foreign media reports have emerged indicating that negotiations were scheduled to resume in Islamabad later this week.
