British Sky News reported on the 15th (local time) that U.S. President Donald Trump said that a deal with Iran is highly likely to be reached by the end of this month.
In a phone interview with the broadcast on the afternoon of the 14th, President Trump was asked about the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran before the state visit of British King Charles III to the United States. He replied, "It's possible. Very possible. They (Iran) have been hit pretty hard."
King Charles III is scheduled to visit Washington D.C. and New York from the 27th to the 30th, including attending a state dinner at the White House and delivering a speech to the U.S. Congress.
In an interview with Fox Business on the 14th, President Trump also said, "I think (the war) is almost over. I think it's very close to ending." He suggested to the New York Post and ABC that peace talks with Iran could resume soon in Islamabad, Pakistan.
President Trump expressed his continued dissatisfaction to Sky News regarding relations with the UK, stating, "We asked for help, and they (the UK) didn't help." Britain did not actively participate in the U.S. airstrikes against Iran, refused to send troops to the Strait of Hormuz, and only assisted in air defense for its Middle Eastern allies.
He described the bilateral relationship as "better, but sad," and commented, "We gave them (the UK) a good trade deal. It was a better deal than it should have been. That can always change." This suggests the possibility of altering the trade agreement announced by both countries last year, which focused on reducing tariffs on cars, steel, and aluminum.
President Trump highly praised King Charles III as "a great gentleman, a friend of mine, and a fantastic person," while criticizing Prime Minister Keir Starmer, saying, "I like him, but he's made tragic choices with bad immigration policies and energy policies."
