U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the leaders of Israel and Lebanon are scheduled to hold talks on the 16th (local time).

Trump said on Truth Social on the 15th, "It has been a very long time, 34 years, since the leaders of Israel and Lebanon have had a conversation," adding, "The meeting will be held tomorrow, which is wonderful."

He explained that the meeting is "to provide a little breathing room between Israel and Lebanon."

The talks between Israel and Lebanon come at a time when attention is focused on the possibility of a ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

According to The New York Times (NYT), Israel and Lebanon are reportedly discussing the possibility of a short-term ceasefire beginning as early as the 16th for about a week.

The Financial Times (FT) also reported, citing Lebanese officials, that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah would be announced soon.

If a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon is achieved, it is expected to serve as a catalyst for the peace negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, which have a ceasefire expiration deadline next week.

The U.S. and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire on the 8th and are continuing peace negotiations, but Israel has continued its attacks, claiming that the Lebanese front is not included in the ceasefire.

Iran has shown a sensitive stance, making the cessation of Israel's attacks on Lebanon one of its conditions for peace negotiations with the U.S.

President Trump has been pressuring Israel to refrain from attacking Lebanon in order to 본격화 peace negotiations with Iran.
