U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) became the first senator to introduce legislation on March 20 (local time) to repudiate the House of Representatives' impeachment resolution against Donald Trump, which was led by the Democratic Party in 2019, Just The News reported.

He argued that the resolution to impeach the president six years ago was "lacking in justification," citing newly declassified evidence from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

Scott's move came after reports that Gabbard, through declassified documents, provided evidence to Congress and Trump's legal team showing that the whistleblower who triggered the impeachment with revelations about Ukraine policy was "potentially biased," misled investigators in his initial report, and did not receive evidence to support his claims, which were based on rumor.

The resolution submitted by Senator Scott calls on the Senate to "condemn the handling of the 2019 Ukraine whistleblower complaint, urge the Department of Justice to investigate and prosecute that matter, and declare that the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump by the House of Representatives lacked justification."

The resolution further stated that the House's impeachment vote against Trump in December 2019 was "based on a concealed and flawed complaint, lacked justification, and the facts and circumstances upon which the articles of impeachment were based did not meet the burden of proving that President Trump committed 'high crimes and misdemeanors,' nor did they prove that President Trump engaged in 'insurrection against the United States.'"

In an interview with the John Solomon Reports podcast, Scott stated that he believed the 2019 Trump impeachment trial was "a complete and utter sham," but argued that new evidence shows that the president, his legal team, and the public were not given a fair trial. He added that exculpatory evidence disproving the claims of the primary accuser against Trump had been concealed.

"This was a clear abuse of process," Scott told Just The News. "If fraud or misconduct is found, I want to see these people held to account under the law."

The resolution calls on the Department of Justice to:

- "Swiftly commence a thorough and independent investigation into the handling of the 2019 Ukraine whistleblower complaint, including potential violations related to false statements, improper redaction of information, abuse of whistleblower procedures, and collusion with congressional staff."

- "Restore public trust in the integrity of the intelligence community and congressional oversight by pursuing appropriate criminal prosecutions, consistent with the rule of law and based on the evidence, regardless of political affiliation."
